Choledochal Cyst in Adult

Abstract
The author reviewed 10 cases of choledochal cyst in adult patients in recent 8 years. The following results were obtained.
1. Sex ratio, male to female was 4 to 6.
2. The youngest patient was 16 years old and the oldest patient was 60 years old: Eight out of 10 patients were under 40 years old.
3. Chief complaints were; abdominal pain in 8 cases, jaundice in 4 cases and abdominal mass in 4 cases. Two patients had all three symptoms.
4. Eight patients revealed laboratory findings of obstructive jaundice.
5. The corrcet preoperative diagnosis were made. in only 2 cases.
6. One case had Alonso-Lej type 2 choledochal cyst, the other 9 cases had type 1 choledochal cyst.
7. Choledochocysto-jejunostomy was done in 7 cases, choledochocysto-duodenostomy in 2 cases and Whipple¢¥s operation in one case. There was no operative mortality.
It is difficult to diagnose choledochal cyst in adult preoperatively due to the absence of typical clinical findings. But one must suspect the possibility of choledochal cyst in dealing with patients who have abdominal pain, jaundice and abdominal mass because a significant proportion of choledochal cysts can be found in adult patients.
